Service Overview
A good lawn starts with what happens before the turf is unrolled. Site preparation, soil quality, drainage, and grading determine whether your new lawn establishes properly or struggles from day one.
Most failed lawns in Sydney fail because of poor base preparation. Turf laid straight over compacted clay, old grass, or unprepared soil rarely takes properly. The roots cannot establish, water pools or runs off, and within a season the lawn is patchy, weed-infested, or dying. Doing the prep work properly is the difference between a lawn that lasts ten years and one that needs replacing in two.
Nazscapes handles the full turfing process for Sydney homes. That includes site clearing, soil testing and amendment, grading and levelling, drainage installation, edge preparation, irrigation, and laying both natural and synthetic turf. We work on front lawns, backyard lawns, pool surrounds, and full property lawn replacements.
Whether you want buffalo turf for a family backyard, kikuyu for a wear-resistant lawn, or synthetic turf for a low-maintenance courtyard, every project starts with a free site visit. We assess the site, recommend the right turf for your conditions, and provide a clear written quote before any work begins.

Common Questions
The answers below cover the questions clients ask most often before they commit to design, construction, or staged upgrades.
Natural turf installation typically ranges from $25 to $50 per square metre including base preparation and laying. Buffalo varieties like Sir Walter sit at the higher end of that range. Synthetic turf installation usually ranges from $80 to $150 per square metre with proper base preparation included. Final pricing depends on access, the existing site condition, and how much soil work is needed. We provide a detailed written quote after a free site visit.
A standard front or back lawn install usually takes two to four days from site preparation through to laying. Larger lawns or projects with significant soil work, drainage, or grading may take a week or more. The lawn then needs two to three weeks to establish before normal use, and around six to eight weeks to fully knit in.
Natural turf looks and feels softer, stays cooler in summer, and improves the soil over time but needs mowing, watering, and fertilising. Synthetic turf eliminates ongoing maintenance and works year-round but gets hot in direct sun and has a higher upfront cost. We recommend natural turf for most family backyards and synthetic turf for shaded courtyards, pet areas, or sites where a real lawn would struggle.
Sir Walter buffalo is the most popular choice for Sydney homes. It handles shade better than couch or kikuyu, stays soft underfoot, and copes well with both sun and partial shade. For full-sun, high-traffic areas, kikuyu and Wintergreen couch are tougher. We recommend the right variety based on your specific site conditions during the consultation.
Spring and autumn are the ideal turfing seasons in Sydney. Mild temperatures and reliable rainfall help the turf establish quickly. Summer turfing works but requires more careful watering during establishment. Winter turfing is possible but the lawn establishes more slowly. We can lay turf year-round and adjust the establishment plan to suit the season.
Newly laid turf needs deep daily watering for the first two to three weeks while the roots establish. After that, watering can be reduced to two or three times a week depending on the weather. Avoid heavy use for the first three weeks, then mow once the grass reaches around 50mm. We provide detailed aftercare instructions on completion.
